To create a bootable usb-medium using windows you need the following tool:

http://launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/0.2/0.2/+download/win32diskimager-RELEASE-0.2-r23-win32.zip

Rename the .iso into .img and start the tool as admin.

Creating a bootable tool using Linux you need this

http://git.moblin.org/cgit.cgi/moblin-image-creator/plain/image-writer

then do:

Code:

chmod +x image-writer
./image-writer kanotix-ooo3-2.6.32.iso

to write the iso on the stick.

In regards to that windows Launchpad tool, it has been updated. See here for the newer file and discussion/bugs:

Someone above my pay grade - please comment. The older file did succeed in creating a bootable Kanotix on USB key for me. I had other issues when moving the USB key to a different computer after loading another distro.

Unetbootin works, available both both for Linux and Windows.
